Wolverines U19’s returned home to face defending FYRU State Champion Okapi Wanderers White U19’s at Bob Hayes Sportsplex

The game started with an early advantage for the Wolverines, thanks to Nick Taylor’s kick to Camron Correll, which resulted in a try. Matt Brown-Ramos successfully converted, giving the Wolverines a 7-0 lead over the defending FYRU State Champions. A few minutes later, the opposing team was penalized near their own goal, presenting an opportunity for the Wolverines to capitalize and extend their lead to 10-0.

However, the momentum shifted in favor of Okapi, who managed to score two tries, converting one of them. This brought the score to 12-10 in favor of Okapi. The Wolverines then committed a penalty just before halftime, which the opposing team capitalized on with a successful penalty kick. As a result, Okapi led 15-10 at the end of the first half.

In the second half, the Okapi kicker and Matt Brown-Ramos from the Wolverines engaged in a thrilling exchange of successful penalty kicks, narrowing the gap to 18-16 in favor of Okapi. Later in the half, the Wanderers managed to score a try and convert it, further extending their lead to 25-15. With five minutes remaining, Matt Brown-Ramos completed another successful penalty kick, bringing his impressive record to 4/5 for the day. Despite having the ball in the final minutes of the game, the Wolverines were unable to secure a try and tie the score.

In a hard-fought battle, the Wolverines ultimately lost 25-19. However, the lessons learned from this game will undoubtedly contribute to their future success.

Up next, the Wolverines will face a friendly match against a visiting team from Charleston, SC on March 8th at Rivertown Fields II in St. John’s County, FL. Following this friendly, the Wolverines will resume their regular season play with a home game against the Boca Raton Junior Buccaneers U19’s.
